‘Font Family’ refers to any of the Font products listed on the LETTERMATIC receipt associated your purchase. Each Font Family provided by LETTERMATIC contains a set of digital font software files (such as .otf, .woff, and .woff2 formats), ‘Fonts’.

'Student' is a licensee who is a student at an educational institution, such as an elementary, middle or high school, college or university, and is an individual human who is a single user of any of the Fonts.

In this section we’ll describe a lot of words you’re going to see through the EULA. For instance, that ‘Student’ means someone currently enrolled in a school, college or university.

Definitions:

This license agreement grants Student a non-exclusive, non-transferable, limited license to install and use the Fonts in any applications allowed by this agreement. LETTERMATIC reserves all rights to the design and code of the Fonts. All rights not granted to Student under this license are reserved by LETTERMATIC, including but not limited to future technologies and uses. 

When you ‘buy’ fonts, what you’re really buying is a license, and agreeing to some terms about how you can and can’t use them. Let’s take a look at the basics.

1. Rights Reserved

This license agreement allows the Student to install the Fonts on a single computer owned by the Student or by Student’s educational institution. Student may install the Fonts in an unlimited number of software applications on Apple MacOS, Apple iOS, Microsoft Windows, and Android operating systems, as long as this use does not violate the other terms of this agreement. Student is responsible for maintaining and documenting the installation and use of the Fonts. Student may embed the licensed Fonts into documents that are used only for school projects. The Student may also show projects made with the Fonts in the Student’s portfolio.

You can use the fonts in school projects, whether in print, on the web, or in apps. You can also use them in any personal work and show it in your portfolio. If you don’t own a computer, you can install the fonts on your school’s computer (as long as your school allows that).

2. Permitted Uses

Student may not make any commercial use of the Fonts, and may not use the Fonts in any way that earns money or goods for Student or others. Student may not install the Fonts on a server that allows end-users to generate custom artwork or media using the Fonts. Student may not redistribute or create derivative work of any kind from this software. Student may not pursue a use of the Fonts on a technology not described in this document without express written consent of LETTERMATIC. Student may not use the Fonts to create a digital, software or physical product whose purpose is to supersede or replace the functionality of the Fonts. Student may not use the Fonts to facilitate or create physical renderings of the Fonts, including but not limited to: alphabet stickers, stamps, stencils, heat-transfer patches, or wood/metal/plastic address letters or numeric digits, whether single numbers or letters or combinations thereof.

You can’t use the fonts in any client work or projects that you’re paid for. You’ll need to upgrade to a paid license for that!

3. Excluded Uses

Student may import glyphs from the licensed Font as graphical objects into a drawing program and modify such graphical objects, as long as those modified graphical objects are not then compiled into a new digital Font file. Student may convert the Fonts to any file format for Student's use, but Student may not distribute these new files, and the use of these new files must fall within the terms of this agreement. The licensed Fonts may be encrypted, converted or otherwise modified so that they may be embedded in software, as long as such use is permitted by the terms of this agreement. The Fonts may not be otherwise modified and redistributed in any way, either for resale or for free.

You can modify the glyphs in our fonts however you want. Just don’t turn them back into a font file, please.

4. Modifications

This license is applicable only to Student, the single user as defined above. This license is non-transferable to another party without the express written consent of LETTERMATIC.

5. Number of Users

If Student graduates or ceases to be a student as defined above and wishes to continue to use the Fonts or the Fonts, Student is obligated to inform LETTERMATIC, and acquire additional licensing at applicable rates.

This license expires when you graduate or leave school. If you want to keep using the fonts, send us a message and we’ll get you set up with a different license.

6. Mechanism for Upgrade

Student may not provide the Fonts to any other third parties, or make it accessible to third parties by any other means.

You can’t share the fonts with anyone else. If your classmates need the fonts for a shared project, they should download their own Student licenses from LETTERMATIC.

7. Third Parties

Neither Student or LETTERMATIC is, or shall claim to be, a legal agent, representative, partner, or employee of the other, and neither party will have the right or authority to contract in the name of the other, nor will it assume or create any obligations, debts, accounts, or liabilities for the other. Student agrees to indemnify and hold LETTERMATIC harmless for any third party claim that arises as a result of Student's use of the Fonts. Student's parent and subsidiary companies also agree to indemnify and hold LETTERMATIC harmless for any third party claim that arises as a result of the Student's use of the Fonts.

What you do with the fonts is your responsibility. For example, if a letter falls off a sign and were to hit somebody, we aren’t at fault for making that letter too bold.

8. Indemnification

This license agreement takes effect when Student installs or uses the Fonts in any applications allowed by this agreement.

Your installation of the fonts means that you agree to the terms of this document.

9. Activation

This license expires when Student graduates or ceases to be a student as defined above. LETTERMATIC reserves the right to terminate this agreement at any time. In the case of a breach of the terms above, this agreement may be terminated without notice. Student agrees in the event of a notice of discontinuation or license expiration to discontinue using the Fonts and delete all copies in Student's possession, and provide a written notification that this has been completed to LETTERMATIC.

If for any reason we choose to cancel this agreement (which would happen in extreme circumstances, like if you use the fonts to spread hate speech), you have to stop using the fonts and delete all copies of the files.

10. Duration

A use by Student of any of the Fonts outside the terms of this agreement is considered a breach of this agreement. Student is liable to LETTERMATIC for remedies in that event, including damages for lost revenue, an injunction against continued use, and court and attorney fees and costs for pursuing such remedies. This EULA shall be interpreted under the laws of British Columbia, Canada, and any legal proceedings based upon this EULA shall be conducted there.

This whole document is just a set of rules. If you break any of the rules, it breaks our agreement and could result in legal action.

This license agreement grants Freelancer a non-exclusive, non-transferable, limited license to install and use the Fonts in any applications allowed by this agreement. LETTERMATIC reserves all rights to the design and code of the Fonts. All rights not granted to Freelancer under this license are reserved by LETTERMATIC, including but not limited to future technologies and uses.

This license agreement allows the Freelancer to install the Fonts on a single computer solely owned by Freelancer. Freelancer may install the Fonts in an unlimited number of software applications on Apple MacOS, Apple iOS, Microsoft Windows, and Android operating systems. Freelancer is responsible for maintaining and documenting the installation and use of the Fonts on Freelancer's computer. Freelancer may embed the licensed Fonts using the format of Freelancer’s choice, in any number of uses, as long as this use does not violate the other terms of this agreement, including but not limited to: mobile applications, electronic games, websites, logos, documents, advertisements, retail displays, magazines, newspapers, e-publications, e-books, printed books, product packaging, products for sale, posters, stationery, business cards, album covers, videos for broadcast or webcast, and motion pictures. If Freelancer intends to use the Fonts for any use not listed here, please contact info@lettermatic.com to confirm that this use is covered by this license agreement.

You can use the fonts in lots of different ways! Our licenses cover any uses in print, on websites, in apps, and on television. As long as it’s not restricted in the next section, it’s allowed!

Freelancer may not license the Fonts for pre-installed distribution, such as a system font, on any computer operating system or electronic gaming system. Freelancer may not install the Fonts on a server that allows end-users to generate custom artwork or media using the Fonts. Freelancer may not redistribute or create derivative work of any kind from the Fonts. Freelancer may not pursue a use of the Fonts on a technology not described in this document without express written consent of LETTERMATIC. Freelancer may not use the Fonts to create a digital, software or physical product whose purpose is to supersede or replace the functionality of the Fonts. Freelancer may not use the Fonts to facilitate or create physical renderings of the Fonts, including but not limited to: alphabet stickers, stamps, stencils, heat-transfer patches, or wood/metal/plastic address letters or numeric digits, whether single numbers or letters or combinations thereof. Any such use requires a separate license; contact info@lettermatic.com for an addendum to this license agreement.

There are only a few uses of our fonts that aren’t allowed. You can’t include the fonts pre-installed on an operating system. You can’t use the fonts in an app where people can create their own artwork using the fonts. You can’t make alphabet products using the fonts for sale.

If Freelancer extends or enables the usage licensed hereunder to others, whether to employees or to others having an association with Freelancer, Freelancer is obligated to inform LETTERMATIC, and either cancel the Freelancer’s existing license or acquire additional licensing from LETTERMATIC, and pay the associated balance, to remedy this.

If you hire employees or join a team, you’ll need to upgrade to a Company license to keep using the fonts.

Freelancer may provide the Fonts to a graphic designer, web designer, software designer, design agency, printer or other service bureau that is working on Freelancer's behalf if they agree to use the Fonts exclusively for Freelancer's work, agree to the relevant terms of this license, and retain no copies of the Fonts on completion of the work. Freelancer may provide documents with embedded Fonts to clients or other third parties under this license, but Freelancer may not provide the Fonts to clients or other third parties, or make it accessible to third parties by any other means, unless the third party themselves owns a relevant license from LETTERMATIC.

Working with a design agency, print shop, or web developer? You can give them the font files too, as long as they only use them for your project. In client work, you can send them documents with the fonts embedded, but they’ll need to buy their own license to use the fonts themselves.

Neither Freelancer nor LETTERMATIC is, or shall claim to be, a legal agent, representative, partner, or employee of the other, and neither party will have the right or authority to contract in the name of the other, nor will it assume or create any obligations, debts, accounts, or liabilities for the other. Freelancer agrees to indemnify and hold LETTERMATIC harmless for any third party claim that arises as a result of Freelancers's use of the Fonts. Freelancer's parent and subsidiary companies also agree to indemnify and hold LETTERMATIC harmless for any third party claim that arises as a result of Freelancer’s use of the Fonts.

This license does not take effect until LETTERMATIC receives the relevant license payment from Freelancer. LETTERMATIC reserves the right to change the price of the Fonts at any time, and this change in price shall not reflect any obligation for LETTERMATIC to refund Freelancer or offer any other terms to Freelancer related to price, nor will it require Freelancer to pay any balance should the price increase.

Your purchase of the fonts means that you agree to the terms of this document.

9. Payment & Activation

All license sales are final. LETTERMATIC may consider refunds on a case by case basis, but offers none by default.

We don’t really give refunds, but send us a message if you think you need one and we’ll talk about it.

10. Refunds

As long as Freelancer's use is within the licensed usage, this license is perpetual and allows the Fonts listed above to be used as outlined indefinitely. LETTERMATIC reserves the right to terminate this agreement at any time. In the case of a breach of the terms above, this agreement may be terminated without notice. Freelancer agrees in the event of a notice of discontinuation to discontinue using the Fonts and delete all copies in Freelancer's possession, and provide a written notification that this has been completed to LETTERMATIC.

11. Duration

A use by Freelancer of any of the Fonts outside the terms of this agreement is considered a breach of this agreement. Freelancer is liable to LETTERMATIC for remedies in that event, including damages for lost revenue, an injunction against continued use, and court and attorney fees and costs for pursuing such remedies. This EULA shall be interpreted under the laws of British Columbia, Canada, and any legal proceedings based upon this EULA shall be conducted there.

12. Remedies

For trial uses:

‘Font Family’ refers to any of the Font products listed on the LETTERMATIC receipt associated your purchase. Each Font Family provided by LETTERMATIC contains a set of digital font software files (such as .otf, .woff, and .woff2 formats), ‘Fonts’.

‘Trial-User’ is a licensee who wishes to test the Fonts on a trial basis before obtaining a full license from LETTERMATIC, and is one or more users of any of the Fonts within a single business or enterprise.

In this section we’ll describe a lot of words you’re going to see through the EULA. For instance, that ‘Trial-User’ means a person or group who wants to test the Fonts before purchasing.
